The Texas Department of Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» has determined the weather-related event that occurred March 16, 2016, through March 17, 2016, in the counties of Dallas, Tarrant, Johnson, and Parker is a catastrophe for the purpose of claims processing.
The designation allows for additional time for processing of insurance claims related to the identified catastrophe in the counties listed above.
The TDI bulletin said the catastrophe declaration is necessary due to the large volume of claims resulting directly from the event.
Insurers still must promptly acknowledge receipt of a claim and make appropriate assignments for the investigation of a claim.
Policyholders should continue to receive the timely service that they expect and should not experience delays in receiving the benefits that they deserve because of the additional time, the bulletin noted.
The commissioner’s bulletin is # B-0005-16.
