Former Iowa Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Agent Sentenced for Ongoing Criminal Conduct

February 15, 2018

A former insurance agent in Bettendorf, Iowa, has been sentenced to five years’ supervised probation for insurance fraud, the Iowa Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Division reported

Billie J. Holmberg pleaded guilty in Scott County District Court to the charge of Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a class “B” Felony.

Holmberg was charged in July 2017 following an investigation conducted by the Iowa Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Division’s Fraud Bureau that began in April of that year. The Fraud Bureau concluded that Holmberg altered and endorsed a series of checks that totaled more than $7,000.

The checks were from American National Property and Casualty Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Co. policyholders and were intended to pay their insurance premiums. Holmberg deposited the checks into her own bank accounts and ultimately used the funds for personal use, the Iowa Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Division said.

Homberg’s insurance license was revoked by the division on April 4, 2017.

The criminal prosecution was the result of a collaborative effort of the Scott County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³» Division’s Fraud Bureau.
