A Maine man out on bail for an April 2024 arson charge has been charged with a new arson incident.
According to officials, on the evening of January 5, the Maine State Fire Marshal (FMO) assisted with an investigation of an explosion in the back of a pickup truck parked in Swanville. Troopers with the Maine State Police received information and the location of a person of interest, identified as 20-year-old Patrick Kane of Topsham.
Officials said police officers were able to detain Kane for questioning by the fire investigators. Simultaneously, investigators responded to the site in Swanville to conduct an origin and cause investigation.
Through multiple interviews, investigators said they gathered probable cause to arrest and charge Kane with arson and violating conditions of release.
At the time, police said Kane was out on bail for an arson charge that the FMO investigated last April. Kane and three others were arrested in connection with three fires in Woolwich and Dresden.
Officials said Kane was taken into custody and transported to the Waldo County Jail, where he was denied bail. He will be held pending a court appearance on the new charges.
No other information was made available. The incident remains under investigation.
